With hammer and anvil to an axe – at the beginning you hold the bare metal in your hand. You work with traditional forge machinery, which is at least 100 years old, powered by its own water power station.
You feel set back in time – even centuries. After forging with the “spring hammer” you go on to “hardening” and the hardness test. You will be amazed at how a piece of dead material gradually turns into a made-to-measure tool. On the master’s instructions you will swing the forge hammer, letting it smash down powerfully on to the glowing iron and forming the burning hot steel. This is followed by the grinding on a water-cooled stone. Finally the axe is fitted with a selected ash handle. Off to work!
